Chickens, Engineers and more

The chickens have been out of control, so we decided to fence them in. After a couple of trips to Menard's, we settled on "Rabbit Fence", and enclosed about one and a half acres with it. For 50 chickens, it's still plenty of room to roam, but we hope to keep them from wandering into neighbor's yards.

We had Bo Wagner, a structural engineer, out to inspect the property. He was very good, and as we had hoped he told us that the buildings were generally in very good shape, other than the house.

The old farm house is a problem, because it's not been maintained as well as it should be for many years. But even if it had been, the oldest portion of the structure is separating from the more recent additions. Water has gotten in and black mold abounds. Crumbling plaster, warped floors, and a host of other problems exist. With a heavy heart, we fear the old house must go.

We're going to move the electrical service to the old well house, and the plumbing too. We need water for our farm operation, of course! We're getting proposals and quotes for all of this work, and trying our best to keep our heads above water through the ordeal.

Many thanks for your prayers and support!
